As conclusion, we only support two payment methods PayPal and Upwork. Each service works with a certain fee for the respective transactions. Depending on your location and desired outcome, one method may be better than the other.
Paypal generally incurs a significantly lower fee which amounts to a flat fee + a percentage of the payment processed for services and goods payments (testing is considered a service and cannot be processed as friends and family payment). For more information, please refer to PayPal.
Upwork, on the other hand, takes a flat % cut from the freelancer's earnings, which goes down as the user earns more money with a particular contractor. For more information please refer to Upwork.
Many individuals will often prefer Paypal due to the lower fee. Unfortunately, PayPal is not available in all countries where our testers are located and in such cases, this may not be possible.
On the other hand, Upwork can be useful for freelancers who are looking for more opportunities, by having a contract on Upwork, as it can reflect well for them when other opportunities present themselves.
Ultimately, which method you choose can depend on your desired outcome and the availability of each option.
We understand many tester's needs for more options and are of course looking into alternatives, in order to provide testers with more options, however, this is a process that takes a long time. Setting up a regular user account is vastly different from doing so for a company and the limitations differ as well. There are many factors we need to take into account and work out before other options can be made available.
When another option is made possible, we will, of course, inform everyone and update our systems and FAQs accordingly.
Please also kindly note that while we do not actively deny users from using payment methods of friends or family, we do not assist or resolve issues that arise from this type of payment method sharing. Testers are responsible for the information they provide on their profile, and any conflict between the account holder and the recipient of the payment needs to be resolved between the two parties.
- Countries where neither PayPal nor Upwork is functional
There are certain cases when we can’t avoid reimbursement through another payment method as there are countries where neither PayPal nor Upwork is available.
If you are located in a similar country, please inform the test manager who is in charge of the project you work on that you would like to be paid through a different money transfer channel as PayPal and Upwork are not operating where you live. We’ll then find a proper solution for your situation together, so everyone’s work will be honored as expected.
- How often do we honor the testers’ payments?
We have a scheduled payment session every week. On this occasion, we manage the reimbursements for the testers’ contributions both via PayPal and Upwork.
It is very important for you to understand that we transfer the payments within 2 weeks after the project completion. We noticed that testers often consider the moment they finished their individual tasks as the moment at which they can start expecting the payment, but that’s not the case. Even though you finished your tasks, the test managers still have to review the test results, moderate the reported issues and calculate the final payouts for every tester, which let’s face it… can be very time-consuming. Due to this, we consider that the project completion date is the date when the test manager finishes his/her tasks and closes the project.
